Tulsa, Oklahoma -- May 18th, 2005 -- After a mere four months in business Tulsa's premier dance club, CLUB FUSION located at 16th & Sheridan, has been offered an opportunity that most nightclubs could only hope for in a lifetime -- a chance of exposure to a national audience through the phenomenon known as "reality TV."
CLUB FUSION General Manager Chris Black made the announcement this past Friday in the club that FUSION had been offered a market-exclusive opportunity for what might be the next big thing in reality television -- a television show based on a nightclub located in "the heartland".
" 'The Heartland' is what they call us out in California when they're being nice, by the way", joked Black.
Shooting for a pilot episode began in the club just after the announcement and will continue every Friday and Saturday night through the middle of June.
"The funny thing is, " says Black, "this isn't even something that we pursued!
A few weeks ago CLUB FUSION hosted a show-taping tour stop in Tulsa for the National Lampoon Network's Reality Bar Crawl with reality TV personalities from MTV's Road Rules, The Real World and Inferno.
"The reality stars kept commenting on how much they liked the club, but we thought they were just being gracious guests," laughed Black. "We're not sure exactly what transpired or who saw what, but about two weeks later I got a call from a production company representing a major network that has lot of cutting edge reality-based TV asking us to participate in this new television show."
Black said that for competitive and contractual reasons he could not release the name of the network or the production company at this time.
"It's funny actually! The promotions guy from a competing nightclub was here Friday, I guess because he heard we had a big announcement to make. When he heard what our announcement was he told several FUSION staff that his club had already signed a reality show deal. Based on our contact with the production company and the network, we know that this could absolutely be no further from the truth," said Black
The announcement, followed by a champagne toast to celebrate took the crowd by huge surprise.
"This just isn't the sort of thing you expect to happen in Tulsa, Oklahoma," said club-goer and local disc jockey Katez.
"This is something we're going to need a lot of help with," expressed Black. "We are really hoping people will come out looking their best so we can show the rest of the world that even cities in the heartland have some great nightlife!"
