  • Libertarian sues to get spot on ballot
    A third-party presidential candidate has filed a federal lawsuit to try and force his way on to Oklahoma's ballot in November.

    Bob Barr, a former Republican congressman selected as Libertarian presidential candidate, contends state election laws are discriminatory because unrecognized political party candidates cannot file to run for president in Oklahoma.

    Barr and vice presidential candidate Wayne A. Root are joined in their suit by eight registered Oklahoma voters who plan to abstain from voting because they cannot cast ballots for the Libertarian candidates.

  • High schoolers representing state in D.C.
    Students from across the nation, including four Oklahoma teens, will gather in Washington, D.C., today to learn about the political process and build leadership skills.

    The Oklahoma high school students are among those participating in the activities of American Legion Boys Nation 2008 and American Legion Auxiliary Girls Nation 2008. The annual leadership conference begins today and will run through July 26.

    Oklahoma's Girls Nation senators are Taylor Marlow, 17, of Norman and Morgan Whinery, 17, of Sayre. The Boys Nation senators are Kiernan Beresford, 18, of Norman and Beaux Fulton, 17, of Coweta.

  • Batman sequel sees opening 'Knight' success
    NORMAN ? Believe the hype, according to fans attending midnight screenings of "The Dark Knight? in Norman and across the metro.

    "Going to see Batman? was shoe-polished on a truck in the parking lot of the Hollywood 14, and following the film, viewers were glad they had gone.

    Filmgoers were awed by director Christopher Nolan's epic vision.

    "The most adult comic book movie I've ever seen,? said Douglas Hurst, 31, of Norman. "It makes you think about what it means to be a hero."

    The late Heath Ledger was noted for his strong performance as the anarchic Joker.
