  • Teen shot in Tulsa dies
    TULSA ? A 15-year-old boy shot Sunday night in a northwest Tulsa house has died.

    Kordero Coleman died at 10:15 p.m. Monday at a Tulsa hospital, police officer Leland Ashley said.

    The boy was in a house at 4387 N Elgin Ave. when the bullet hit him about 9 p.m Sunday. Police have not identified a suspect.

    Those with information about the shooting are asked to call Tulsa Crime Stoppers at (918) 596-2677. Those wanting to send a text message should begin the message with ?tip918? before typing the tip. Messages should be sent to 274637.

  • Prosecutors open ex-Custer County sheriff's sex abuse trial
    FAIRVIEW --Special prosecutor James Boring began opening statements today in the trial of former Custer County Sheriff Mike Burgess by taking 43 minutes to read all 36 charges against him. Burgess, 56, sat expressionless as the descriptions of the charges were read.

    The defendant was dressed in a gray suit with a dark green tie. His wife, Brenda Burgess, sat in the front row in the corner nearest her husband, just as she had throughout prior court proceedings.

    Assistant District Attorney James Swartz described the evidence that will be presented against Burgess. Much will come from six alleged victims, five of whom have criminal histories, he said.

    Swartz named each woman and what she will testify to.

  • Burris denied seat in US Senate to succeed Obama

    WASHINGTON (AP) ? Roland Burris failed in his bid to take President-elect Barack Obama's Illinois Senate seat on Tuesday in a scripted piece of political theater staged just before the opening of the 111th Congress.

    "My credentials were not in order, I will not be accepted, I will not be seated," Burris, 71, told a mob of reporters who had followed him across the street for a news conference in a cold and steady rain outside the Capitol.

    The former Illinois attorney general said he was "not seeking to have any type of confrontation" over taking the seat that he was appointed to by embattled Gov. Rod Blagojevich. But Burris, who would be the Senate's only black member, also said he was considering a federal lawsuit to force
