    WASHINGTON (AP) _ A bipartisan group of auto-state senators has reached a last-ditch compromise to throw the United States' Big Three car manufacturers a government lifeline worth billions of dollars, but it faces an uphill battle in a reluctant Senate.

    With the auto bailout stalled, the fate of hundreds of thousands of workers and Detroit's once-venerable car companies hangs in the balance.

    Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid canceled plans for a vote on a bill to carve $25 billion in new loans out of the $700 billion Wall Street rescue fund. The Bush administration and congressional Republicans opposed that plan.

  • Tulsa restaurant fire ruled arson
    TULSA ? Fire investigators have determined that an early morning restaurant fire that caused $50,000 in damage was the result of arson.

    Firefighters arrived at Mack?s Grill on S Lewis St. at about 5 a.m. and found multiple fires inside the building, Fire Capt. Michael Baker said .

    The building was unoccupied and no one was injured, Baker said.

    After the fire was extinguished, investigators found evidence the fire was started intentionally.
