MP3 Bundle up! This week the Oklahoma Gazette's, Joe Wertz, takes us outside to two of OKC's wintery attractions. Skate along with Joe in the recently opened Devon Ice Rink, a 150 foot by 62 foot ice rink set up outside the Civic Center Music Hall. Or, take to the Chesapeake Snow Tubing Slope at the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark... all part of "Downtown In December".

Cleveland County voters will decide Tuesday whether or not they want to pay for a new jail with a sales tax increase. County commissioners say they need about $45 million to construct, operate and maintain a new lock-up. The Norman Chamber of Commerce has decided to not take any official position on the jail proposal. You can read their letter on the issue, and also see an informational slide show on the jail plan.
| MP3 This week on Oklahoma Voices we speak with Oklahoma native Winston Smith (pictured at left) about his unique and subversive style of collage pop art. Smith – who named himself after the protagonist of George Orwell’s novel 1984 – designed the logo for the punk group the Dead Kennedys and has created album covers for bands like Green Day and Rage Against the Machine, as well as artwork for Playboy, Spin and The New Yorker.
Then, in the second half of the show, we feature excerpts from the Oklahoma City StorySlam, a monthly event that’s kind of like a poetry slam, except that participants tell stories related to a chosen theme. And at the end of the night, audience members vote for the best storyteller, and the winner gets a prize. Past themes have included “Busted,” “How We Met” and “Stranger in a Strange Land.” Today we’re airing excerpts from a StorySlam that took place last April on the topic of “Really Bad Dates.”
The next StorySlam is scheduled for 7pm on Friday, December 19th at the Istvan Art Gallery, 1218 North Western Ave. in Oklahoma City. The theme for the evening will be “Spirit” (interpreted however you wish). You can get more information on the series by going to http://www.myspace.com/okcstoryslam or sending an e-mail to okcstoryslam@yahoo.com.
