  • Ballet Oklahoma faces uncertain future
    Ballet Oklahoma faces an uncertain future as reports of financial woes and dwindling public support continue to echo throughout the community.

    By the end of the 2007-08 season, Ballet Oklahoma had incurred a debt in excess of $400,000. Through fundraising and the selling of some assets, that debt has now been erased. Approximately $1 million would be needed to fund the company?s 2008-09 season.

    ?Chesapeake Energy Corporation has agreed to purchase the Ballet Oklahoma studio on Classen Blvd. which would allow the company to remain there for two years,? said Ballet Oklahoma board member Phil Clayton.

  • Girl drowns in backyard pool
    An 11-year-old girl died after drowning in a backyard pool this evening in northwest Oklahoma City.

    Police responded to a call at 3828 NW 9 St. about 6:20 p.m. after receiving reports that the girl jumped into an above-ground pool and didn?t resurface.

    ?One of her friends pulled her up, kind of kept her above water,? said Lt. Wade Gourley of the Oklahoma City Police Department.

    An officer was able to pull her out of the pool. She was taken to a city hospital where she died.

    Police are not releasing the identity of the victim.

  • Pauls Valley shooting injures 1; arrest made
    PAULS VALLEY ? A man was hospitalized after being shot today at a Pauls Valley motel, police said.

    He was shot at the Garden Inn, 2511 W Grant Ave., at 6:10 p.m., according to a news release from Pauls Valley police.

    The victim, a 27-year-old man, was taken to Pauls Valley General Hospital before being flown to an Oklahoma City hospital. Police, who did not release his identity, would only say that he was in stable condition.

    Gary Leach, 33, was arrested by Pauls Valley police in connection with the shooting. Leach and the victim both work in the oilfield industry, police said.

    No other details about the shooting were immediately available.
