DLP is a flat screen design, but not a thin TV. They are typically 13-20" deep, not nearly as deep as the old tube or projection tv's though.
Plasma and LCD are about the same in age, and they both have their pros and cons. LCD in the past has not be very good at fluid pictures, pictures with a lot of color. However they would blow away the competition for still displays such as computer monitors and similar.
Plasma in the past had a bad rap for getting 'burn in' but I believe this problem has been resolved in the newer models.
As for pricing I believe you will find that they increase from DLP - LCD - Plasma with there being a fine line between LCD and Plasma. Both I believe still cost more only because of the thin design.
I'm sure you'll be happy with any of the technologies, just do your homework and test drive as many as possible.
