Re:BUSH SUCKS DICK! - 2006/01/23 08:48 That's somewhat of a harsh statement about our President isn't it? And he isn't up for reelection, so why not put your energy towards making sure the next candidates are people you will support?

  • Bush signs jobless benefits extension

WASHINGTON (AP) _ With no end in sight to economic bad news, President George W. Bush on Friday ensured that millions of laid-off workers will keep getting their unemployment checks as the year-end holidays approach.

Bush signed an extension of jobless benefits into law just before 8 a.m., as he was preparing to leave the White House for a morning flight to Lima, Peru, to attend the 21-nation Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.

Congressional leadership rushed the bill to the White House after it was approved Thursday to make the unusually quick bill signing possible before Bush left the country.

  • Atty. Gen. Mukasey collapses during speech

WASHINGTON (AP) _ Attorney General Michael Mukasey, the no-nonsense ally in President Bush's war on terror, was hospitalized Thursday after he collapsed during a late-night speech and lost consciousness.

"Oh, no, no!" people in the audience cried out as Mukasey slumped at the lectern. "Oh, my God!"

The 67-year-old Mukasey, wearing a black tie and tuxedo, was 15 to 20 minutes into an address about terrorism when he began shaking slightly and slurring his words. As he read from his prepared text, he seemed to get stuck on a word, paused, then his head bowed slightly and he swayed. Three or four men in suits rushed on stage and caught him at the podium.

  • Nebraska lawmakers put age cap in safe-haven law
LINCOLN, Neb. - The surprising and seemingly endless stream of teenagers dropped off at Nebraska hospitals over the last two months likely will come to an end Saturday. The Nebraska Legislature on Friday gave final approval, with a 43-5 vote, to a bill that puts a 30-day age limit on children who can be dropped off under the state's safe-haven law. Gov. Dave Heineman was expected to sign the bill Friday afternoon, making the law go into effect at 12:01 a.m. CST Saturday. Nebraska will join 13 other states with a 30-day age cap. It has been the only state with a safe-haven law that that lacks an age limit. "I think this solves the immediate problem of adolescents being abandoned," said Sen. Kent Rogert of Tekamah.
