  • Oklahoma City school district could lose control of $3.7 million it spends on math, reading programs, services

    By Tim Willert, Staff Writer

The loss of the state?s No Child Left Behind Act flexibility waiver could redirect $3.7 million in federal funding that Oklahoma City Public Schools spends on programs and services for low-performing schools, district officials said Tuesday.

About 37 schools designated as ?priority schools? ? 26 elementary schools, eight middle schools and three high schools ? use the money for summer school and after-school math and reading programs, professional development or supplemental curriculum for remediation purposes.

?They could be affected if we lose the flexibility,? said Terry Fraley, the district?s executive director of federal programs.

  • Noble Board of Education keeps superintendent accused of sexually harassing students

BY GRAHAM LEE BREWER, Staff Writer

More than a hundred people crowded into the small, steamy room where the Noble Board of Education held a special meeting Tuesday evening to discuss the actions of their school superintendent, which left many parents in town angry and some students embarrassed.

The Noble board decided to keep public schools Superintendent Ronda Bass on staff and create a development plan for her, after behavior that some say was inappropriate.

Bass came under fire last month when some female students say she embarrassed them in front of their peers for the way they were dressed.

Bass allegedly went to some classrooms at Noble High School on the second day of school and asked several of those students to stand up and proceeded to point out how she felt they were inappropriately dressed.

  • GlobalHealth acquires Medicare Advantage plans

    FROM STAFF REPORTS

GlobalHealth insurance company plans to hire 50 employees in Oklahoma City and Tulsa to transition the Oklahoma business of a Houston-based company that offers Medicare Advantage preferred provider plans, the company announced on Tuesday.

GlobalHealth has acquired Today?s Options of Oklahoma, which provides Medicare Advantage plans to nearly 6,000 Oklahoma seniors under the product name Generations Healthcare.

The acquisition will allow GlobalHealth to continue to expand its market share and ?provide more Oklahomans with access to affordable health care,? Chief Executive Scott Vaughn said.

Since Vaughn, a former partner with BKD CPAs & Advisors, took GlobalHealth?s CEO position four years ago, the company and the Oklahoma City clinic, which employ 230, have increased annual revenues from $95 million to $170 million, he told The Oklahoman in April.

Vaughn attributed the jump to competitive pricing and improved customer service.

GlobalHealth, which in February was bought by New York-based equity firm Kinderhook Industries, offers the most popular, and lowest-cost insurance plan ? a home maintenance organization ? among those available to state employees.
